NDMC at 68; Fr. Sullivan Bldg unveiled

September 8, 2009 marked a history to the Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC) community. It was the 68th Notre Dame Day as well as the blessing of the Fr. Sullivan Bldg.

NDMC was founded on June 13, 1941. It caters the nearby towns with quality education from pre-school to graduate studies. It has highly competitive teaching personnel and hardworking staff.

NDMC is a sports, culture and peace advocate. It is a Philippines Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) accredited school. It was awarded as the Most Effective Private Elementary and High School in Region XII for the School Year 2008-2009. Recently, its High School Department was awarded as first among the top performing private schools in Cotabato Division based on the result of the National College Assessment Examination (NCAE) for the School Year 2008-2009.

Moreover, the board examination results are above the national passing rates. Its TESDA courses have100 percent results and most of it has national certificates. Hence, NDMC on it’s 68th year is really proud for these accomplishments.

What’s new about the first Notre Dame in Asia? A three-storey twin building. It houses the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE) and the De Mazenod School of Science and Technology (DMSST). NDMC dedicates the new twin building to its brilliant postwar Director Father Robert E. Sullivan, OMI, thus, it was named Fr. Sullivan Bldg.

Fr. Ramon Ma. G. Bernabe, OMI, the provincial superior, presided the Eucharistic celebration and blessed the new building. In his homily, he challenged NDMC to be like Mary…like a mother that rejoices for her child’s success and sacrifices when her child has problems and in trouble. Fr. Bernabe added that everyone must give life a space for the community of Jesus.

NDMC President Father Romeo S. Saniel, OMI delightedly said that it was a happy and symbolic celebration. Fr. Saniel refers happy in the sense of unity among the NDMC personnel, unity through sports, and trying to respect one another. On the other hand, he said it was symbolic because of the Fr. Sullivan Bldg inauguration whose commitment to quality education is deep and persevering. For Fr. Saniel, the building symbolizes NDMC’s quest for quality education and compassionate service.

With the theme “Journeying with Mary in our Quest for Excellence and Compassionate Service”, the celebration was filled with joy and excitement because the blessing was followed by different ball games played by the teaching and non-teaching staff, students and other invited players from neighboring schools in town. It was a success with the presence of NDMC faculty, staff, and students and some distinguished guests like Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Cotabato Manager Lolita Teope, wife of Jolo, Sulu Mayor Abubakar, board of trustees, Sangguniang Bayan Members of Midsayap, alumni, retirees, and representatives from different agencies, local government units and schools.
